Will global warming affect ski holidays.

The potential effects of global warming are disputed by experts who are divided about what this will mean for future generations. While scientists grapple with this problem and how it will affect our everyday lives, there is another aspect to this which may be seen as less important, unless you happen to have an interest in running ski holidays and ski chalets. A report issued in 2003 suggested that hundreds of resorts which offer ski holidays and which count on the ski chalets being filled with holidaymakers could be affected by global warming.

Those who make a living from ski holidays don’t have to panic immediately as the report’s author believes this will begin to take effect in 2070, when he argues that for example, all of Australia’s nine resorts which offer ski holidays will not be viable. The reason for this is that - according to this theory - the snowline will be pushed to higher altitudes which will leave many ski holidays locations without snow.

While there is no immediate concern for those of us who like to take ski holidays, the people who make a living from ski holidays and renting ski chalets are beginning to make plans for an alternative source of income. You can see signs of this in many resorts which now offer other pursuits which are not reliant on the snow. Many of them are now geared up to offer mountain biking and hiking holidays, which goes some way to making sure that the ski chalets are full throughout the year. Of course, it may well be that those who claim that Global Warming is a threat are wrong in their assertions, which will be good news for all of us, not just those who enjoy ski holidays.
