The Auroa Borealis are a phenomenon that mesmerises people all over the world. Indeed, individuals even head off on special northern lights holidays so they can see the colourful displays as clearly as possible.
One fan of the visual treat is Icelandic photographer Kristjan Unnar Kristjansson, who is also known as Kiddi. The expert, who is from Reykjavik, claimed that the lights are inspirational, the Daily Mail reports.
He remarked: "No words can properly describe the experience. Even though I've seen them now and again throughout my life, I'm still awe-inspired and flabbergasted every time they show up."
The 31-year-old was recently taking snaps of the lights and revealed that these particular efforts were among his best. He has spent the last nine years capturing the natural show on film.
Getting shots of the lights is not easy using normal cameras as they fail to record the true splendour of the sight. Mr Kristjansson therefore uses highly sensitive equipment.
Commenting on his endeavours, he said: "It is really hard capturing them, as they require bright lenses, highly photosensitive cameras, warm clothes and a whole lot of luck."
Meanwhile, he went on to state: "Flashlights are must-haves, especially when there's no moonlight, as the night can be pitch black. I don't think anyone has ever captured a good aurora photo in their first try or even their second."
According to the expert, having people, structures or landscape in the images helps to give them "authenticity, scale and value".
Luckily for Mr Kristjansson, he can see the Auroa Borealis from outside his apartment. However, in order to get the best images he can, he frequently takes special trips to other places so he can get a better view.
"In total, I would estimate that I've driven somewhere around 10,000 to 15,000 kilometres while looking for them," the photographer went on to note.
