It is in Thailand that some of the world's best underwater riches are kept. I know this because I had the opportunity to travel to some parts of the Asian archipelago including Thailand. In the Philippines, Tubbataha reef found in Palawan is a world heritage site which boasts of undaunted underwater treasures that never failed to lure divers from around the world. Still in the Philippines, Apo Island Marine sanctuary in Negros Island have unparalleled marine biodiversity in this part of the world. The Sipadan point in the southern part of Asia has constantly topped the list of the worlds best. Truly, Asia has so many things to offer that have not been discovered yet.

The tropics have never tailed in biodiversity as far as corals and tropical marine life is concerned. Many government as well as non-government organizations have joined forces and forged alliances committed to protect and preserve this heritage. The UN through its agency, UNESCO, has been aggressively promoting welfare and support to this endeavor through programs geared towards preserving this marine life. There has been an awareness drive and it has been quite successful which dramatically increased the tourism industry in some areas.

The wealth of the tropics is indeed kept secret in its silent waters. Its wealth lies upon every fish egg that hatches to continue the link to its future. The lazy strokes of the corals beneath the waters determine the rhythm of life beneath. In its absence, our world would entirely be different--- less color, less life.

So, every encounter truly matters. I can vividly recall my manta ray experience as it softly glides a few meters from me.This is indeed one of my most memorable experiences. I don't have any formal training in diving and I'm not really that good. My belief in the sanity that goes along every imagination of a life under the sea is grounded in my simple underwater experiences before. As my imagination unfolded into one reality after another, I can say that I am starting to live life to the fullest. My own measure of this is a contact into a life beyond my own; into a life that I can see through clear goggles beneath the placid waters of the tropical paradise.
