In Western Canada, two sports attract so many tourists that more than 25 operators have started to activate in the area. British Columbia is notorious worldwide for the heavy snowfalls all year long, high mountains, difficult terrain and luxury resorts with high quality services at affordable prices. Consequently, the most popular sport would be ski. However, the Canadian operators have found a way to make the vacations spent there even more interesting and exciting. In the second half of the last century, two new sports have been invented: Heli skiing and Cat skiing.

While both heliskiing and catskiing are based on the principle of going downhill on slopes covered with fresh, powdery snow, there is a major difference. The dissimilarity between the two sports consist in the means of transportation they use, which are also responsible for the names of heli skiing and catskiing. The first one implies travelling by helicopter, while catskiing uses a less common terrestrial vehicle called the snow cat. The snow cat was originally used by lumberjacks because it can reach very high and difficult points on the mountain. The inventor of catskiing compared the vehicle to a mountain lion and this is where it got its’ name.

Cat skiing Canada has become increasingly popular as the prices have dropped significantly in the last decades. Improvements in technology such as cuts in the gas consumption, increased smoothness and increased space of the snow cat corroborated with the operators which are motivated by the competition to offer advantageous packages and special offers and discounts to potential clients have led to an amazing development of cat skiing BC.

However appealing cat skiing Canada may seem, it certainly is not for everyone. Although it is the ultimate freedom finding sport, it can put quite a strain on a physically unfit person. The mountain slopes are quite dangerous, but the catskiing guides and monitors are present at all times and make sure that you and your group of 6 to 24 people are safe and do not get lost. In addition, while riding in the snow cat, each and every catskiing enthusiast is equipped with radio transmitters so the possibility of communicating with each other is ensured at all times. Not only that, but also the cat skiing BC beginners are made to take additional lessons to improve their skiing proficiency and technique.

However, the greatest fear revolving around the subject of cat skiing BC is that of avalanches. Although it is true that the risk of avalanches level in this region exceeds the ones present in other parts of Canada, cat skiing BC operators work continuously to make the trips as safe as possible by always checking weather forecasts and having at their disposal helicopters and properly trained personnel to intervene in case of accidents. Moreover, all catskiing rides are prohibited in case there is a slightly risk of avalanche.

As for their part, the cat skiing Canada operators do all there is in their powers to ensure maximum security levels for everyone involved in these activities and work closely together to make sure their guests are well accommodated and enjoy their vacation to the fullest! Try going cat skiing BC and you will surely not regret it!
