There are still many people who think that in order to buy laptops, you need to be on the go all the time, traveling around the country or taking your computer on trips with you. The truth is that most people who have laptops never leave the home with them. But that doesn’t mean that laptops aren’t a much better choice for them than traditional desktops.

If you want to buy laptops but aren't quite sure what to get, you are not alone. For people who are not technically inclined, this task can seem daunting and intimidating. There are so many different things to consider with regard to specification. Plus, if you buy more features than you need or that will be of use to you, you run the risk of spending quite a bit more for your computer than you really need to.

As technology has changed over the past decade or so, laptops are not a lot more expensive than desktops, yet when you buy laptops you have a huge number of advantages. The primary reason why most people buy them in fact is because they are small. You can fold a laptop up, put it away and people won’t even know that you are working.

The other advantage is that, especially when you have a Wi-Fi network in your home, you can take your computer from room to room, watch a movie in bed, or put some headphones on and listen to music. Of course, there is also the advantage of being able to take your work with you on vacation, on a business trip, or even out to the backyard.

Sure, it can seem rather confusing to buy laptops at first. However, when you take the terminology one word or acronym at a time, slow and steady research can yield big results. Soon you will be able to talk to store staff like a pro, knowing exactly what features you want on your new purchase and not paying more than you need to for those features.

There were only two reasons why people would buy desktops instead of laptops in the old days, and they were primarily cost and power. You used to be able to get a lot more machine for your money when you got it in a big box, and you paid for the luxury of transportability. Now, however, you can buy laptops that are as fast and powerful as any desktop, and because they are wireless, you can take them wherever you want. There really are no more disadvantages to having laptops, and they now make up the majority of all new personal computers that are sold.
